LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A Los Angeles police officer was shot and wounded in South L.A. early Thursday morning.

The shooting was reported at 5 a.m. in the area of South Central method and Jefferson Boulevard, near the LAPD’s Newton Community Police stop.
The male officer was conscious and breathing when he was taken to a hospital, police said.

At about 5:20 a.m., a possible speculate was taken into custody a few blocks away, at East 29th Street and Naomi method, police told CBSLA.
“Grateful our officer will survive this unprovoked attack,” LAPD Chief Michel Moore tweeted. “Just spoke with him by phone. Our robbery homicide detectives have investigation (sic) and I’m confident they will clarify the individual(s) responsible. Too many guns in too many hands.”
